Variant 6 joins Warp Trio and the Kevin Sun Quartet for the world premiere of Kevin Laskey's improvisatory Almanac for two performances in New York and Philadelphia. From the composer: "The piece itself is a kind of almanac—a repository of eclectic texts and music, sliding through different sounds and idioms. The texts themselves have almanac-y elements as well—they all feature some kind of catalogue or collection (colors, flowers, cliches, to name a few so far). On the flip side, the piece is also a meditation on what happens when someone looks at a collection of objects or pieces of information. Despite the discrete nature of the parts of the collection, a viewer can imagine a singular narrative connecting the objects or data. For me, this is a kind of improvisational act, something that is created in real time, and can be quite different for different viewers. In this Almanac, the improvising performers find their own collective narrative within the discrete musical objects that I have assembled."

tickets will be available in spring 2019
