This program features Rebecca Myers and Elisa Sutherland in an intimate recital of solos and duets, accompanied by Dušan Balarin on a variety of plucked string instruments. Celebrating the long and rich history of the combination of these two mediums, we explore music from the 17th century by composers like Barbara Strozzi, Henry Purcell, Sigismondo d'India, and Claudio Monteverdi.

Variant 6 presents Hologram, in a program that explores the unique scope of light and color created by an exquisite blend of low voices. For the first time, the ensemble’s tenors and basses alone come together to create a warm and sonorous soundworld, from the rich beauty of Francis Poulenc and Franz Schubert to the lush contemporary voices of Joanna Marsh, Joanne Metcalf, and Salvatore Sciarrino.

Variant 6 presents Mosaic, a program of music for six a capella voices that celebrates the rich musical history of composition and music-making in Philadelphia.The centerpiece of this program will be a world-premiere by Philadelphia composer Robert Maggio. Alongside contemporary Philly composers Benjamin C.S. Boyle, Michael Djupstrom, Ksenia Stetsenko, Steve Crino, Kile Smith, and David Shapiro, we will perform the music of Samuel Barber, perhaps Philly’s most famous composer.
