NEXUS
October 24, 2025
This program will feature a wide expanse of a capella repertoire for three treble voices, featuring Jessica Beebe, Rebecca Myers, and Elisa Sutherland. From rarely performed works of the Medieval era to contemporary works by some of our favorite composers, this concert will showcase a dazzling display of virtuosity performed by long-time collaborators: the founding trebles of Variant 6.
CRUX
March 6 & 7, 2026
Following their acclaimed collaboration in 2023, Philadelphia chamber ensembles Variant 6 and Filament will again join forces to present Dietrich Buxtehude’s magnum opus, Membra Jesu Nostri. This hour-long “devotione decantata,” or “sung devotion,” is a cycle of seven cantatas, each an ode to a different part of the crucified Christ’s body. The artists of Variant 6 and Filament will come together as one in a spirit of collaborative invention. With a cast of guest instrumentalists, they will breathe fresh life into this deeply moving and timeless work.
Equinox
May 15 & 16, 2026
Serving as the centerpiece for this program is Philadelphia composer Benjamin C.S. Boyle’s first Cantata: To One in Paradise. This setting of text by Edgar Allen Poe was composed 20 years ago by Boyle and will be performed by four vocal soloists of Variant 6 and pianist Laura Ward. In addition to Boyle’s work, we will explore other compelling repertoire for voices and piano, including works by Fauré, Brahms, Britten and more.
PHILADELPHIA BACH COLLECTIVE
September 16, October 28, January 20, March 24, & May 5
The Philadelphia Bach Collective was created out of a desire to showcase the vast talents of local musicians who specialize in music of the Baroque. All concerts will be presented at 1pm at St. Mark’s Church on Locust Street.
The music of J.S. Bach forms the cornerstone of high Baroque repertoire. His cantatas speak to the human condition in every passion and state, regardless of faith. Philadelphia boasts a thriving community of internationally renowned vocal and instrumental early music specialists, but currently has no regular performance outlet for this repertory. The Philadelphia Bach Collective aims to serve our city by making the works of J.S. Bach available to all, as well as to nurture our musical community.
